Tips for throwing the most awesome Superbowl Party

As the American tradition of celebrating Superbowl Sunday nears, many people, even those who are not football fans, will be partying it up with friends. What makes this day such a popular party holiday? My guess - the food, the beer, and the commercials, oh and the football game of course.

There are plenty of different ways to throw a Superbowl party. Each person or group has their own unique spin on what makes up the ideal Superbowl festivities. As a result, I have picked out a few items and ideas, most of them related to food, from various places that would create what I would consider to be “the most awesome Superbowl Party.”

On ToastedRav.com they describe some pretty interesting food options, including the greatest snack stadium ever built.  Amazon has some pretty cool party favors and supplies to outfit any respectable SB party. This one, the Football Fan Inflatable Drink Cooler, is a favorite of mine because you can have icy cold beverages anywhere. And for all of you drinking game fans, the Super Bowl Party Plastic Cups, 8ct are a necessity for nearly any game that comes to pass.

Outside of the suggestions above, here are some general guidelines that will help you plan and pull of a great party this Superbowl Sunday.

  • Leave the gourmet recipes in the books. This Sunday, forget about getting fancy or making formal sit down meals. Focus instead on classics like chili, dips, hot wings, pizza, and chips and snacks of any kind.
  • Have ample drinks on hand. There is nothing worse than running out of drinks, whether it is soda or beer in the middle of the game. Keep the fridge and coolers stocked, it will inevitably get consumed so don’t go light on the beverage purchases.
  • Football decorations are ok, but don’t overdo it. It is a nice touch to have matching napkins, plates, and cups all with a football theme, but when you have football lights, pillows, figurines, and other inflatables…my advice - save your money and buy more beer or food.
  • Don’t be the annoying person at the party or be the one who invited them. You know that person I am talking about, the one who talks over everyone, who knows everything about every player or commercial, the one who thinks everything that everything they say is so entertaining. The person who undoubtedly makes everyone at your party want to go deaf just for a few moments of peace. If you want to have a party people will remember for good reasons, don’t have anyone like this at your party.
  • Make sure you have big TVs and plenty of room. There is nothing worse than going to a friend’s house for a party where TV is vitally important to the festivities only to find that they have a tiny one room apartment and a 20 inch TV. People like their comfort and no one wants to use a magnifying glass to catch the game.

Follow these tips and I guarantee you will be well set up for a great party. Even if you aren’t a football fan, it is still perfectly acceptable to throw a party and enjoy the commercials. There are always plenty of memorable and funny new ads that role out on Superbowl Sunday. So, if you are planning a party be considerate of the above tips and I am sure your guests will appreciate it.

The Colts are the early favorites, and I think that’s a good bet. I think I might pull for the Saints, though. I really like Manning, but I like the underdog story and the city of NO could use something like a SB win.
